May I add that one can put the runway into a FIX and add a 90 degree radial to make the runway end visible on the ND. Especially handy when having to make a circle-to-land with a right hand pattern, meaning the runway is on the FO side (and cannot be seen by the captain if he is PF). And of course handy for us lonely pilots at home behind our desktop.

Mind you, putting the opposite runway (i.e. the runway you are eventually landing onto) into the ProSim equation is not easy. At least I found it difficult.
Example: CTL on Rwy 180. When you fly the approach you'll select e.g. the ILS for Rwy 360 in the ARR page. After that I couldn't select Rwy 180 to put that in a FIX. I first had to make an approach by selecting Rwy 180 on the ARR page, then put that into the FIX and get a radial. After that return to the ARR page and replace the Rwy 180 by Rwy 360 (and e.g. the ILS for Rwy 360). After changing the ARR, the FIX of Rwy end 180 (including radial) remains.

Hi Jan Willem

Yes quite correct. I wrote about this in an earlier article which discussed programming the CDU.

I wanted to try and keep this article simple without delving into the intricacies of using the CDU. If you are really keen you can program the whole circle to land into the CDU and follow the route using LNAV.

All the same, I should briefly touch on this. I have edited the article to reflect this.

Thanks for the suggestion 👍

Yes, I know. There is a nice video on YouTube by Mentour Pilot about a captain doing this (on the wrong side of the runway first) which ended in a disaster. See here:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kamyxB-yKrc

Hi Jan Willem

Interesting video and a good example why you do not create a route to overlay a circle-to-land approach. The approach has been developed for a reason, and to do what they did in the video is counterintuitive (at least to me it is....). Interesting that they continued despite not having adequate visual reference and not staying within the protected area. I think I may have mentioned this in the article under 'recommended actions'.

Thanks for the link✅

When and How To Use Reverse Thrust

Post by willow »

Greetings

Recently I had a discussion with some realworld pilots concerning the use of reverse thrust - when to use it, how to use it, and how much thrust is really necessary. I thought it may make an interesting article.

Enjoy!

On another note, Feedburner now ceases to exist. I have replaced feedburner with Follow.It.
